NEWS 18/04/25 /// Works from the JK Art Collection prominently featured in 1913: The Great Artistic Explosion. T opwerken naar Singer Laren Between 16 September 2025 and 11 January 2026, Singer Laren will present the exhibition 1913: The Great Artistic Explosion. The exhibition focuses on Dutch painting from 1913 and the artworks that were displayed that year at leading national and international exhibitions. Singer Laren places these works in a broader context by combining them with pieces by, among others, Wassily Kandinsky, Amedeo Modigliani, August Macke, Raoul Dufy, Henri Le Fauconnier, Jules Schmalzigaug, and Robert Delaunay. The JK Art Foundation is lending works by Alexej von Jawlensky, Robert Delaunay (two works), and Amedeo Modigliani—all created in 1913. A fifth loan concerns a work by Jan van Deene, dating from 1912. On October 14, the official opening of "Rubens' Atelier" (El Taller de Rubens) took place at the Prado, with the foundation in attendance. The exhibition explores what the workplaces of European painters looked like in the early modern period, focusing on the most successful and productive painter of the first half of the seventeenth century, Peter Paul Rubens. It showcases twenty paintings, two drawings, and five engravings. These works illustrate the various forms of collaboration between the master and his assistants. The exhibition also examines the physical conditions in which artists worked. It includes a reconstruction of a workshop from that time, showcasing easels, canvases, paints, brushes, palettes, and other materials (some original to the seventeenth century, others modern reproductions), alongside books, antique busts, and elements that reflect Rubens' interests and collection. I In this context, the loan from the JK Art Foundation makes perfect sense. Jan Brueghel the Younger's painting depicts teams of artists in a studio engaged in various activities, from preparing frames and brushes to the act of painting. This piece serves as a historical document, rich in details and an important source for our understanding today. Wat houdt ons vandaag bezig. 2023 23/08/23 /// THE JK ART FOUNDATION IN THE MEDIA Tableau Magazine dedicates article to the founder of the foundation. The latest edition of the art and design magazine Tableau magazine contains an interview with the spiritual father of the JK Art foundation. The article introduces you to Jos Koster and his motivations for collecting so passionately. Naturally, you will also get an idea of the collection and how it came about. The article was written by Floris Kappelle and can be read here (PDF) . 18/06/23 /// JAN VAN DEENE, DUTCH PIONER OF ABSTRACT PAINTING Peinture VIII (1912) in Rijksmuseumbulletin (vol. 71) Together with Jacob Bendien, Jan van Deene (1886-1977) is considered the founder of 'absolute painting'. This is a form of painting that consists of completely abstract compositions with organic shapes, lines, and surfaces. Van Deene is also regarded as the first abstract artist in our country. However, the name Jan van Deene still raises many eyebrows in the art world. It is therefore entirely appropriate that Ludo van Halem (curator of 20th-century art at the Rijksmuseum) is now shining a spotlight on this pioneer with a 9-page article in the Rijksmuseum Bulletin. Zowel in Frankrijk als Spanje wordt hier gro ots bij stilgestaan, maar ook het Cobra Museum besteedt er aandacht aan met de tentoonstelling De andere Picasso. Terug naar de bron. Deze tentoonstelling belicht een minder bekend deel van het oeuvre van de kunstenaar en is een eerbetoon aan Picasso en zijn culturele achtergrond, met als centraal thema zijn liefde voor dans en theater, zijn kindertijd en zijn fascinatie voor keramiek. Op donderdag 1 juni jl. vond de officiële opening plaats. Een boeiende expositie waar de JK Art Foundation deel van uit maakt met het bruikleen Tête de Pierrot . (1926) Opening of 'The Other Picasso, Back to the Source' Pablo Picasso, Head of Pierrot (1926) Oil on canvas (right) 19/04/23 /// JAN BRUE GHEL, DE JONGE IN HET PRADO Aankondiging: Brueghel naar het Prado The JK Art Foundation is lending the work 'Allegory of a Painting' by Jan Brueghel the Younger to the Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid. The painting will be part of the exhibition "Rubens' Workshop" (working title), which will open its doors in October 2024. The exhibition aims to give visitors a sense of the space in which painters of that time created their work and to introduce them to Rubens' working methods. Prior to this exhibition, the work will be on display in the exhibition "The Brueghel Dynasty: Four Generations of Tradition and Innovation." It will be available for veiwing from October 30th to January 7th at Het Noordbrabants Museum. Voorafgaand aan deze tentoonstelling zal het werk te bezichtigen zijn in de tentoonstelling De Brueghel Dynastie, vier generaties van traditie en innovatie. Van 30 oktober tot 7 januari te zien in Het Noordbrabants Museum. 31/05/23 /// NAUM GABO; RESTORATION PROJECT Restoration of work by Naum Gabo Completed Bas-Relief on a Circular Surfa ce, Semi-Spheric is one of Naum Gabo’s early works; at the time, he was just beginning to experiment with spherical themes. Created in 1938, the work is made of early plastics, which are known to deterior ate over time. This prompted us to conduct a detailed assessment of the work’s condition. According to restorer Carien van Aubel, the plastics used (cellulose nitrate and cellulose acetate) both showed the following phenomena: discolouration, craquelure, deformation and loss of mechanical properties (cracks and fissures). As a result, some spokes and parts of the curve were detached or broken. Both the curve and the spokes had been restored in the past. Under UV light it was clear that the spokes had been replaced during a previous treatment, as they did not fluoresce. Based on Van Aubel’s condition report, the Foundation decided that restoration was the only option. Van Aubel began the restoration process in December 2022. As well as being a conservator, she is also a chemist and a specialist in the conservation and restoration of plastics, working for the Tate Modern in London ( http://carienvanaubel.com/ ), among others. After several months of restoration work, in which the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands was also involved (material analysis and 3D scanning), Van Aubel recently put the finishing touches to the restoration. The JK Art Foundation would like to thank Suzan de Groot (RCE) for her dedication and Carien van Aubel for her expertise and skill: the result is truly astonishing.

Uitgeleende kunstwerken, Bruikleenoverzicht en agenda. Bruikleenverzoek en aanvraag LOAN Travelling Works of Art The JK Art Foundation is actively involved in making art and culture accessible to the general public. One of the main ways in which it does this is by lending works from its collection to museums and cultural institutions in the Netherlands and abroad. Over the past 15 years, the Foundation has loaned more than 100 works to museums such as the MOMA in New York, the Albertina in Vienna and the Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam. The Foundation also supports smaller local initiatives and institutions to reach a wider audience and inspire people with the works of art in the collection.
